London: British Lawmakers on Wednesday votesd against a bill by the opposition Conservative Party demanding an inquiry into the grooming gands scandal. The development led to a political slugfest between the Conservative Party and the ruling Labour Party in the in the house of commons in the United Kingdom.

However, the Keir Starmer government alleged that the Opposition was trying to kill 'the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill' by putting forward an amendment that would force the national inquiry. As per the UK government, the amendment would block the bill.

The bill reportedly includes measures focussing at more stern rules regarding home-schooling and protecting children. A lengthy and fierce debate took place in the House of Commons on Wednesday. The House witnessed a clash between the UK Prime Minister and Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. However, the amendment was rejected by 364 to 111 votes. Notably, the majority mark was 253.

Out of the total votes polled in favour of the motion, 101 were the Conservatives. As per news agency Press Association (PA), Badenoch argued that the government’s denial to conduct the national inquiry into the scandal could raise "cover-up” concerns. Starmer called the motion a " wrecking amendment".

Reform UK’s Nigel Farage reportedly called grooming gangs a “great evil”. Another UK Reform MP Rupert Lowe called "mass raped by Pakistani rapists" a "rotting stain" on the UK and even asked the government if it would deport all the people found guilty.

The entire scandal was first surfaced in 2010. It has been alleged that British-Pakistani men exploit young girls in the UK.

Last week, tesla co-founder Elon Musk hit out at the British PM over the issue. Musk alleged that Starmer failed to take action and give justice to the survivors. Musk also called for the intervention of King Charles.
