A day after he imposed a steep 25 per cent tariff on Canada and Mexico, US President Donald Trump said that he will talk with heads of both the countries. In addition to these two countries, Trump has imposed a 10 per cent tariff on imports from China. At the time of publishing of this story, Trump had not said anything about speaking with the Chinese side.

"I'm speaking with Prime Minister Trudeau tomorrow morning and I'm also speaking with Mexico tomorrow morning," said Trump, as quoted by USA Today. At the time, Trump was at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland where he had landed from his home in Florida.

"They owe us a lot of money, and I'm sure they're going to pay," said Trump further.

Trump's imposition of tariffs has elicited strong reactions from the countries. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said on Sunday that Canada would be imposing a 25 per cent tariff on imports from US as well. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that she was considering tariffs too.

Trump has maintained that he was imposing tariffs on these countries in order to nudge them into action against illegal migrants crossing borders to enter America and drugs like Fentanyl being smuggled into the country.

Tariffs Against EU and UK

Trump appeared to broaden his tariff attack on Sunday as he told BBC that he was thinking of imposing tariffs on the European Union (EU) and the UK.

"They've really taken advantage of [the US]," he said, as quoted by BBC.

"They don't take our cars, they don't take our farm products. They take almost nothing, and we take everything from the millions of cars, tremendous amounts of food and farm products." he added.
