'No One' Can Stop China-Taiwan Reunification: Xi Jinping Sounds Ominous in New Year's Message

Chinese President Xi Jinping said in his new year's message that "no one" can stop reunification of China and Taiwan. His speech was broadcast on state-affiliated media. Xinping's address came with US President-Elect Donald Trump's inauguration being less than a month away. Trump had been hawkish on China during his first term and is likely to be

"We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and the same family. No one can ever sever the bond of kinship between us,"

China considers Taiwan is its own territory and has not ruled out force to capture the self-ruled island. Taiwan's biggest international backer is US.

In recent years, China has been taking military and diplomatic initiative towards its goal of reunifying China and Taiwan.

Chinese military activity near Taiwan has increased.

On Tuesday (December 31, 2024), five People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft and seven People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels were operating near Taiwan, reported MND.

In his speech, Xi said that China was committed to promote global governance reform and contributing to maintenance of peace and stability in the world.

"In a world of both transformation and turbulence, China, as a responsible major country, is actively promoting global governance reform and deepening solidarity and cooperation among the Global South," he added.

Focus On Economy

Chinese economy has seen some major challenges especially after Covid-19 pandemic. It's real estate sector is in shambles following Evergrande issue. Businesses have closed across the country, and this has led to job losses. Although the economy has bounced back, it still has some distance to cover.

"The country has proactively responded to the impacts of the changing environment at home and abroad, and has adopted a full range of policies to make solid gains in pursuing high-quality development in the past year," he said.
