Brasilia: The Brazilian government on Monday lashed out at the Donald Trump Administration after dozens of immigrants from the US arrived in the South American country following a crackdown on illegal immigrants. Notably, dozens of Brazilian immigrants deported by the United States arrived by plane in handcuffs.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry termed the treatment given to the deported by the US as "flagrant disregard" of human rights, reported NDTV. The Brazilian illegal immigrants landed in the country's northern city of Manaus.

These immigrants were reportedly in handcuffs. Several videos of immigrants walking with chained feet and with handcuffs also surfaced online. As per Brazil's justice ministry, the US officials were asked to remove the handcuffs.

According to a statement by Brazil's justice ministry, Minister Ricardo Lewandowski informed President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva regarding the development. Brazil's foreign ministry, in its 'X' handle, said that an explanation will be demanded from the US about the "degrading treatment of passengers"

Brazil immigrants complained of no water or food on the flight in which he and his countrymen were sent back. "On the plane, they didn't give us water, we were tied hands and feet, they wouldn't even let us go to the bathroom (sic)," Edgar Da Silva Moura, a 31-year-old computer technician, told news agency AFP. "It was very hot, some people fainted," Moura said.

Meanwhile, another Brazilian immigrant, 21-year-old Luis Antonio Rodrigues Santos, called the four hour journey from the US to the Brazilian city "nightmare" for people with "respiratory problems", reported AFP. He alleged that the ac of the plane was not working due to technical issues.

Within a week of assuming office, the Trump administration launched a crackdown on illegal immigrants.

On Thursday night 538 illegal immigrants were arrested as part of the " largest deportation operation". Meanwhile, hundreds of illegal immigrants staying in the US were also deported.

"The Trump Administration arrested 538 illegal immigrant criminals, including a suspected terrorist, four members of the Tren de Aragua gang, and several convicted of sex crimes against minors," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said while issuing a detailed statement about the operation.
