International Anti-Corruption Day 2023: The nation's legislation guarantees that all individuals have access to the essential resources required for their survival. It also guarantees that the freedom of individuals is of paramount importance.

Nonetheless, at times corruption can quietly spoil the country's system, ensuring that power remains concentrated in the hands of a few, while independence is not shared equitably. Communities can collapse because of the wrongdoing of a few individuals, and nobody is free from the effects of this offense. Corruption can take various forms, and every type is detrimental to society.

Significance

The 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) aims to emphasize the vital connection between anti-corruption efforts and peace, security, and development. The central idea is that combating this crime is a duty and obligation for all, and that only by working together and engaging every individual and organization can we address the harmful effects of this crime. Governments, public officials, civil servants, law enforcement personnel, media members, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions, the general public, and youth collectively have a responsibility to come together to combat corruption globally.

Theme

Each year, a theme is dedicated to the day's celebration, motivating and promoting the aims to observe for the year. This year's theme for International Anti-Corruption Day is 'Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity.'

Date

Each year on December 9, International Anti-Corruption Day is commemorated. This year, the unique day occurs on a Monday.

History

In 2003, the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) - the initial move in the fight against corruption. It was an agreement endorsed by the UN member nations who united to work collaboratively in combating corruption and upholding law and order. The agreement was executed on December 9 and took effect on December 14.
