After signing the much-awaited India-UK free trade agreement (FTA), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India and the UK were united in the fight against terrorism and thanked British counterpart Keir Starmer for condemning the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were shot dead by Pakistan-based terrorists.
Addressing a joint press conference with UK PM Keir Starmer, PM Modi said, "We express our gratitude to Prime Minister Starmer and his government for the strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We are united in our view that there is no place for double standards in the fight against terrorism."
"Those who misuse democratic freedoms to undermine democracy itself must be held to account," PM Modi asserted.
Amid the ongoing test series between India and England, PM Modi used a cricketing metaphor to describe the partnership between India and the UK.

"For both of us, cricket is not just a game, but a passion. And also, a great metaphor for our partnership. There may be a swing and a miss at times, but we always play with a straight bat! We are committed to building a high-scoring, solid partnership," PM Modi said.
PM Modi also expressed condolences to the families of UK citizens who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash last month.
