Washington DC: The United States has started a crackdown on illegal immigrants days after Donald Trump assumed the charge as the US President. On Thursday night 538 illegal immigrants were arrested as part of the " largest deportation operation". Meanwhile, hundreds of illegal immigrants staying in the US were also deported.
"The Trump Administration arrested 538 illegal immigrant criminals, including a suspected terrorist, four members of the Tren de Aragua gang, and several convicted of sex crimes against minors," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said while issuing a detailed statement about the operation.
Karoline Leavitt's Statement:
"The largest deportation operation in history is well underway. Promises made. Promises kept," she added. The development came just two days after US President Trump signed an executive order restricting birthright citizenship.
Trump's executive order seeks to end blanket rule of extending US citizenship to everyone born in the US. The executive order effectively says that even if a person if born in the US, citizenship will not be automatically granted to him/ her if the child's mother was present in the US unlawfully and its father was not a US citizen or permanent resident at the time of birth or the child's mother was in US temporarily, like on work, tourist, student visa and the father was not US citizen or permanent resident at the time of childbirth.
