Toronto: A temple in Toronto area in Canada has obtained an order from a Canadian superior court that in effect prohibits pro-Khalistan protesters from gathering and coming withing 100 metres of the temple premises. The Lakshmi Narayan Mandir, the temple which obtained the injunction order has put out a statement in this regard.

The Narayan Mandir Hindu Cultural Society has thanked Toronto police for support for a consular camp held at the temple earlier.

“The Superior Court of Justice in Toronto, Ontario has issued an interlocutory injunction prohibiting all protest activities, including physically preventing, or interfering with access to within a 100-meter radius of the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Scarborough from 8am to 6pm on Saturday, November 30th, 2024. This order aims to ensure the safety and sanctity of the temple premises and individuals during the specified hours,” said the temple in its statement as published by ANI.

“The Hindu Cultural Society Shree Lakshmi Narayan Mandir Scarborough extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Toronto Police Service and 42 Division for their outstanding support in facilitating the Indian Consular Camp held at our temple. Your commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our community during this important event was exemplary and greatly appreciated. By providing a secure and welcoming environment, you enabled countless community members to access vital consular services with peace of mind. We are truly thankful for your dedication and partnership, which contribute to fostering harmony and trust within our diverse community. Thank you for your service!” said the temple further.

Relations between India and Canada have been under major strain since last year after Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that 'agents' of Indian government were behind the murder of India-designated pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada in June, 2023.

India has rejected the allegation and has asked for evidence, something the Canadian side is yet to provide.

Since the controversy started both India and Canada have expelled several of each other's diplomats.

But what is also concerning for Indian diaspora in Canada is the filip Trudeau's comments gave to activities of pro-Khalistan elements there.

In November, pro-Khalistan protesters attacked a consular camp near Brmapton and even assaulted women and children.
