Bus carrying students falls into lake in southwest China; 21 dead, 15 injured

A bus carrying students to their annual college entrance exam has plunged into a lake in China's southwest region on Tuesday. The accident that took place around noon in Anshun city, killed 21 people and left 15 injured, reported authorities and state media.

According to a statement issued by the local emergency management department, the bus plunged into Hongshan Lake in Guizhou province.

The eyewitnesses said that the passengers included students who were going to appear for their "gaokao" examinations, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

The 15 injured, however, are being treated in a nearby hospital. Local authorities have pledged to investigate into the cause of the accident.
