An Indian-origin doctor lost his life in a light aircraft crash in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The aircraft reportedly crashed off the coast of UAE’s Ras Al Khaimah. The incident took place on Sunday. The other occupant of the plane was a 26-year-old Pakistani woman who was the pilot of the plane.
Sulaymaan Al Majid was co-piloting the plane. The General Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement confirming the incident. “We were looking forward to the New Year as a family, planning to celebrate together. Instead, our lives have been shattered. It feels like time has stopped for us. Sulaymaan was the light of our lives, and we don’t know how to move forward without him," Sulaymaan’s father said as quoted by Khaleej Times.
Al Majid was born and raised in the UAE. The 26-year-old Indian-origin doctor hired the aircraft for sightseeing, claimed media reports.
The crash took place shortly after takeoff near the Cove Rotana Hotel. “Initial reports suggest the glider lost radio contact and later attempted an emergency landing. Despite resuscitation efforts, both occupants succumbed to their injuries," the UAE's aviation authority said as reported by AFP.
According to Al Majid's LinkedIn profile, he was a clinical fellow at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust in the UK.
