Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn
After being transformed in to a vampire for Edward (Robert Pattinson), Bella (Kristen Stewart), has a child Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy) and her friend werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner) forms an inseparable bond with Renesmee. Believing Renesmee to be a threat, the vampire clan led by Aro decides to kill her. The Cullens are backed by Jacob (Taylor Lautner), actually an enemy of vampires, along with other werewolves. Vampire Alice shares with Aro her vision of the battle (a beautifully shot CG action sequence in which sworn enemies – vampires and werewolves – fight alongside each other) in which Aro gets killed so the clan leave without a fight. Alice sees the future with Edward and Bella and Jacob to protect Renesmee. The final installment in the Twilight series became the highest-grosser.
Red Riding Hood
Young Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) lives in a village with her parents Cesaire and Suzette. She loves Peter (Shiloh Fernandez) but her parents have arranged her wedding with Henry. Father Solomon tells the townspeople that once in 13 years whoever is bitten by the werewolf will become one as well. When the werewolf comes to the village, Valerie discovers that she can understand what it is saying. On suspicion that Valerie is a witch, Father Solomon has her locked up but Henry and Peter help her escape. Valerie is horrified to learn that her father Cesaire is the werewolf. Peter confronts Cesaire, who bites Peter but Valerie stabs Cesaire to death. In the last scene Valerie sees Peter who has become a werewolf. Seyfried’s performance in the dark fantasy was appreciated.
Bad Moon
After a werewolf attack, Ted (Michael Paré) gets bitten and his girlfriend Marjorie gets killed. On a visit to his sister Janet (Mariel Hemingway) and nephew Brett (Mason Gamble), the family dog, Thor, senses something wrong with Ted and becomes hostile towards him. After Ted starts killing people, he hopes he will change on being with his family, so he moves in with Janet. Ted provokes Thor so that it will be taken away to the dog pound. Later he transforms in to a werewolf and chases Janet while Brett frees Thor from the dog pound. Janet shoots Werewolf Ted repeatedly wounding him fatally and after a vicious fight Thor manages to kill Ted. The horror film based on Wayne Smith’s novel Thor tells the story from the dog’s viewpoint.
Teen Wolf
High school student Scott (Michael J Fox) is the son of Harold (James Ha
mpton). Scott plays basketball for his school team, the Beavers, and is infatuated with Pamela (Lorie Griffin) who is dating Mick, of the Dragons team. On one occasion, Scott transforms in to a werewolf since it is in his genes. But the transformation proves beneficial and he becomes the team’s star basketball player and wins the interest of Pamela at the cost of Boof (Susan Ursitti), who loved him since childhood. It is revealed that Pamela is an opportunist so Scott ultimately reciprocates Boof’s love. Scott helps his team win the championship basketball game and Scott, Boof, and Harold embrace as the school celebrates. The fantasy comedy did well at the BO.
The Howling
TV anchor Karen (Dee Wallace) is shocked to see werewolf Eddie and the cops shoot him. Her therapist sends her and her husband Bill to
the ‘Colony’ a remote resort for treatment. Bill gets bitten by a werewolf and he bites Karen. She summons her friend Terri to the Colony. When Terri is informing her boyfriend Chris about the colony’s true nature, Eddie (in werewolf form) attacks and kills her. So Chris heads for the colony with silver bullets and shoots Eddie. Karen and Chris raze the colony to the ground. To warn the world about the existence of werewolves, Karen turns into one on TV. The classic did well at the BO, won a Saturn Award, has a cult following with eight sequels, was listed on 100 scariest movie moments and was praised for the makeup special effects.
