National Doctor's Day in India is observed every year on July 1 to raise awareness about the importance and roles of doctors and medical professionals in our life. The day is dedicated to thank doctors, physicians, surgeons for their contribution of work for the society as a whole. The day is marked in honour of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, a physician and second Chief Minister of West Bengal. Roy’s birth and death coincides in the same day. He was felicitated with India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna. National Doctor’s Day is celebrated on March 30 in the United States, December 3 in Cuba and August 23 in Iran. In India, July 1 was first celebrated as National Doctor’s Day in 1991.
