Ahmedabad, February 11: A shocking incident of animal cruelty took place at Kankaria Zoo, where a Muslim man was caught on camera harassing and beating monkey. The video showed that the man luring the animal with food in his hand and then trying to hit it with his slipper when the monkey approached the cage. The cruel act of the man has sparked outrage among animal lovers and the general public after the video surfaced on social media.

Details About The Incident

The incident occurred at Kankaria Zoo which is located in Gujarat's Ahmedabad. The man identified as Abdul deliberately attracted the monkey by offering them food. As soon as the innocent animals came closer, he attempted to strike them, causing distress and panic among them. Zoo visitors, disturbed by his actions, quickly alerted the authorities.

Abdul Apologises

Later, the man is seen in the video apologising for his monstrous act of harrassing the monkey at the zoo. He is seen doing sit ups while touching his ears with both his hands.

Instagram Post

The video was shared by the animal activist account "streetdogsofbombay" on Instagram. The video was shared with the caption, "A man named Abdul was caught harassing and beating monkeys at Ahmedabad's Kankaria Zoo by luring them with food. Such cruelty is unacceptable and a serious legal offense."

The post further read, "Animal Cruelty Must Not Go Unpunished! In a heartbreaking incident at Ahmedabad's Kankaria Zoo, a man named Abdul was caught harassing and beating monkeys by luring them with food. This inhumane act is not just cruel—it’s a serious legal offense!"

"Zoos are already a poor substitute for an animal’s natural habitat, and such mistreatment only adds to their suffering. Authorities must take strict action and ensure better surveillance to prevent such crimes in the future."

"Animals deserve protection, not abuse. Let’s raise our voices against cruelty!"

Legal and Ethical Concerns

Harassing and abusing animals is a serious offense under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Such actions not only cause harm to the animals but also violate ethical and legal standards for wildlife protection. Experts emphasize that zoos are already stressful environments for animals, and mistreatment only adds to their suffering.

Need for Stricter Laws

This incident raises concerns about security and supervision in zoos. Authorities must take strict action against offenders and increase surveillance to prevent such acts in the future. Awareness campaigns about animal rights in zoos are also essential.

Public Responsibility in Protecting Animals

Visitors must respect animals and report any acts of cruelty immediately. Animals deserve kindness and care, not abuse. It is crucial for us as society to take a firm stand against such incidents and ensure that zoos remain safe spaces for the animals they shelter.

While Abdul’s public apology may serve as an admission of guilt, it does not undo the harm caused. Stronger legal action and stricter monitoring are necessary to prevent such cruelty in the future.
