Vadodara: A viral news from Vadodara of a teacher getting arrested with hefty fine for slapping a student is sparking debate among netizens, slamming the court decision. A private tuition teacher was sentenced for 6 months in jail and fined ₹1 lakh by Vadodara court, for slapping a Class 10 student which left the 15-year-old with serious injuries to his ears. According to the reports, the judgment came nearly five years after the incident happened. Netizens are slamming the decision given by court.

All You Need To Know:

A private tuition teacher named Jasbirsinh Chauhan used to teach English and Social Science to the 15-year-old boy at a coaching centre. On December 23, 2019, Chauhan was found guilty of subjecting the student to corporal punishment. According to the complaint filed by student's father, Tejas Bhatt, the student was attending the tuition as usual. Later, the student called his father to bring exam form to the coaching centre.

When Bhatt and his wife arrived at the centre they heard sounds of beating from inside the classroom. When Bhatt entered theh classroom, Chauhan was relentlessly slapping the student for missing two days of classes during which important topics were learnt. The physical abuse by the teacher caused serious injuries to the student to his eardrum being torn and bleeding.

Legal Proceedings

Chauhan apologised several times following the incident but Bhatt and family lodged a complaint and after around five years of legal proceedings, he was sentenced for five years of imprisonment and ₹1 lakh fine.

Here's How Netizens Are Reacting:

Netizens are slamming the decision given by the court while some are relating it with their school experiences when beating students wasn't considered as a crime. One user wrote, "A teacher has the right to punish the disobedient students. Previously PT teachers used to make students kneel in scorching heat even if they missed tucking their shirt or were late to school by 5 minutes. That fear instilled discipline. But nowadays it has become a crime..very sad."

Another user wrote, "That way our teachers would have got lifetimes in fine. For some reason, getting beatings wasn’t a problem then. I sometimes think if I studied because I feared my teachers.. either way I only have good memories of the beatings too.."

Another user commented, "What rubbish rule is this, they used to slap us until their hand started paining." While another commented, "This judgment is absurd. A slap doesn't warrant jail and a ₹1 lakh fine. There are far bigger crimes going unpunished. Priorities are clearly messed up."

One user jokingly wrote, "If this judge had been during my childhood then my math sir would have paid nearly 30lakhs at the end of academic"
