Vice President of the United States of America Kamala Harris faced backlash on Saturday for her 'insensitive' tweet on the Memorial Day weekend.
Posting her own picture on Twitter, Harris wrote, βEnjoy the long weekend.β
Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May to honour and mourn the soldiers who died while serving in the U.S. Military. On this day every year, people visit cemeteries and memorials. Many place an American flag on graves of military personnel in national cemeteries.
As soon as Harris tweeted her picture, it went viral on Twitter earning her a lot of criticism and backlash.
Republican candidate Lavern Spicer wrote, "Kamala Harrisβ self-centered and tone-deaf #MemorialDayWeekend tweet is a national embarrassment, but not a surprise to anyone whoβs been paying attention. #RememberTheFallen."
Analyst Ron Christie wrote, "Dear @VP This isnβt a long weekend to kick back & think of all the fun one can do. This is a time to reflect and honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country as well as thanking those who served & continue to do so. Their selflessness can not be honored enough."
People across USA have criticised the VP for her tweet. Here are some of the reactions.
