Tourism Entrepreneur Calls India 'Overpriced Dump Of Destination'; Another Post Goes Viral After British-Indian Tourist's 'Dump' Remark About Country

Anand Sankar, a tourism entrepreneur from a village named Kotgaon in Uttrakashi, recently commented at the tourism industry of India and said that it is going through a "Reputation and price problem".

In an X post, reflecting on the scenario of tourism in the country, Sankar claimed India to have become an "Overpriced dump of a destination". He mentioned himself to have been a part of the industry to more than two years while making these remarks.

Sankar's post came days after a British-Indian listed down negative points about the country concluding his 3-year-long trip to India. While the tourist said he didn't regret his India tour but didn't fall in love with the country or felt like revisiting it soon, this entrepreneur too commented on similar lines.

Taking note of the tourist's remark which read "India is a dump", Sankar's recent post too spoke about the country in a bad light.

"I am part of the tourism industry and have been vociferously saying this for the last 2+ years - we have become an overpriced dump of a destination", the post read.

The X post ran briefly wrote why he believed that the reputation of the country in terms of tourism fell.

"I haven't seen the reputation of India in tourism as low as this. There is no optimism and mystique anymore - every potential inbound visitor is seeing the news and reading on social media. Domestic tourists are shunning India for abroad", he wrote.

"Majorly middle & upper middle class domestic tourists are put off by high domestic airfares and expensive local logistics", he added.

Further, Sankar noted that tourism is one of the easiest method a government could focus on to generate employment and goods & services tax. But he stated "The sector has gained a reputation for being stagnant in India".
