Perry was euthanised
Perry was suffering with arthritis and muscle atrophy. Its long battle ended on January 2 when the donkey was euthanised.
The donkey was part of the Barron Park in Palo Alto, California. From this home, Perry would pose as a model for photos and sketches which would be used in Shrek's donkey character.
In loving memory of the donkey...
In loving memory of the donkey, the park posted on Instagram saying there are plans to build a memorial for Perry.
In an Instagram post, the Barron Park announced Perry was no more and wrote, "We are heartbroken to share that our beloved Barron Park donkey, Perry, passed away yesterday at the age of 30. He was a beloved member of our community and we know many people will be touched by his passing. Memorial plans will be announced soon".
Perry gained fame for inspiring film makers of the Shrek franchise to come up with the donkey character for their lead character. Perry led to the creation of Shrek's funny sidekick, who together won the hearts of fans for their cuteness and walking style. However, the animated donkey character never carried Perry's name.
