Black lentils which were soaked overnight in water turned the water extremely black, drawing the attention of internet towards food quality. The video of the 'kali dal' leaving its colour and appearing green the next day was posted online by a Himachal Pradesh-based journalist named Neha Sharma. She recorded the instance of adulteration and shared it online tagging CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

In the video, Sharma showed viewers the condition of the soaked lentils the next day. The visuals noted that the black lentils were soaked in a cooker only to see the water turn black after the colour added to them shed off.

"Mamla gadbad hai"

"If you are from Himachal, this video is for you. I feel something is fishy with this (Kali Dal)", she said while mentioning she had purchased this 'dal' from a government ration depot in the state.

Sharma pointed out the poor quality of 'dal' available in the state and wrote, "Mamla gadbad hai (This is fishy)".

In the video, she revealed that the black lentils she purchased were adulterated, while showing viewers that they were actually green in colour but only dyed to transform into 'Kali Dal'.

According to reports, the adulteration of lentils involve harmful chemicals used to colour the lentils is banned due to its potential to cause cancer and other serious diseases.

Earlier this year, the state made the headlines for adulterated mustard and soybean oil in Solan, which was later recalled after being deemed unfit for consumption. In August this year, the state set up food forensic units to keep a tap of adulteration.
