Jhansi, August 17: In a shocking incident, a giant python was reportedly killed brutally by villagers in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi. There are reports that the villagers killed the massive snake to save a farmer's goat from the reptile. A video has surfaced on social media in which the villagers are seen dragging the dead goat and the python on the road.
There are reports that the incident occurred in Punawali village which falls under the Rakasa Police Station area. The massive python around 15 to 20 feet long attacked and swallowed the goat in a field.
As per reports, a farmer identified as Jaswant Rajput (35), son of Mukundi Rajpur, was grazing his goats and other cattle in the field located near the Rajghat canal. The area is covered with overgrown bushes where the animals were feeding.
Suddenly, a huge python appeared from the grass and attacked the goat. It caught hold of one of the goats and began swallowing it slowly. The goat raised an alarm as it was attacked by the massive snake.
Farmers Arrive With Weapons
Hearing the goat's loud cries, Jaswant rushed to the spot, he was surprised and horrified to see the snake coiling around the animal and trying to swallow it. The other villagers also reached the spot on hearing Jaswant's shouts. The other farmers arrived on the spot with sticks, rods and axe to rescue the goat from the python.
The video shows that the villagers attacked the python to save the goat. One of the villagers found the snake in the bushes after which he attacks the reptile with an axe. Despite their efforts, they were not able to rescue the goat, it died. The python was also killed on the spot as it was attacked with an axe. The reptile died due to the repeated blows.
The villagers then pulled and dragged the animal and the snake on the road. The video shows one of the villagers carrying the dead body of the black goat and the other is seen dragging the dead snake with a long stick.
Panic In The Area
The incident of sudden appearance of the massive snake has created panic among the farmers in the area. They have asked their women and children to not go near the fields or canal until the situation is completely safe. The incidents of snakes being spotted in the residential areas have increased as they come out of their hibernation during the monsoon season.
The villagers should have spared the life of the snake and called the forest department to rescue the reptile. Humans must learn to live together with animals in harmony, respecting their place in nature.
