Spiders in China have got names inspired by popular songs. Yes, you read that right. While this might seem weird, it is true.

Mi Xiaoqi, a scientist from China's Guizhou province and his fellow researchers gave 16 new species of spiders they discovered recently names based on well-known pop singer Jay Chou's songs. The Taiwanese musician's song titles' were referred to and provided to the newly discovered creatures.

Jay Chou's song names given to spiders

Mandopop artiste Jay Chou's songs are not only melodies one would tune into but also spiders they can watch out live.

From his 'Rainbow' to 'Rice Field', 16 tracks were picked to name the spiders. According to reports, the names of these spiders now include "anjing" (silence), "longquan" (dragon fist), "yequ" (nocturne), "caihong" (rainbow) and "daoxiang" (rice field).

This viral naming surfaced online and caught the attention of netizens after the researchers published their work in the journal Zoological Research: Diversity and Conservation last month.

Researcher is a fan of Jay Chou

Mi Xiaoqi, the first author of the study, decided to give song-inspired names to the spiders to avoid any sort of repetition in the nomenclature.

It goes unsaid that the researcher is a great fan of Jay Chou. Reportedly, he is also nearly the same age as the musician.
