A bizzare incident of cow dung theft from a village in Chhattisgarh's Korba district has come to light, police said on Sunday.
An officer said 800 kg of cow dung worth Rs 1,600 was stolen from Dhurena village under Dipka police station limits on the intervening night of June 8 and June 9.
"A formal complaint was lodged on June 15 by Kamhan Singh Kanwar, the head of village gauthan samiti," Dipka SHO Harish Tandekar told reporters.
A case was registered against unidentified persons for theft and further investigation is underway, the SHO added.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra's old video has now gone viral. In the 6-second clip, Patra is heard saying, "Gobar jo hota hai vo Kohinoor heere se bhi mehenga hota hai (Cow dung is more costlier than the Kohinoor Diamond)"
Watch Video:
Reportedly, the video is from 2015. When we looked for a longer video, we found that Patra had actually cited the Supreme Court and made the comment: "Jaha jaha BJP ki sarkar hogi vaha vaha beef ban hum karenge kyu ki Supreme Court ne bhi kaha hai ki ek gai ka gobar vo Kohinoor heere se bhi mehenga hota hai ( In which ever states, the BJP is ruling, the party will ban beef in those states because the Supreme Court has also said that the dung of a cow is more valuable than a Kohinoor diamond)."
Did the Supreme Court say that cow dung is more valuable than the Kohinoor?
Not exactly. According to a report, the apex court has actually quoted from one of the affidavits of the state of Gujarat that referred to the National Commission on Cattle report.
"The value of dung is much more than even the famous “Kohinoor” diamond. An old bullock gives 5 tonnes of dung and 343 pounds of urine in a year which can help in the manufacture of 20 carts load of composed manure. This would be sufficient for manure need of 4 acres of land for crop production. The right to life is a fundamental right and it can be basically protected only with proper food and feeding and cheap and nutritious food grains required for feeding can be grown with the help of dung. Thus the most fundamental thing to the fundamental right of living for the human being is bovine dung," the affidavit read.
