Pune, Maharashtra: In a daring stunt, a 70-year-old woman caught a massive snake with bare hands in Maharashtra's Pune. The incident was recorded on camera by the onlookers and the video is doing rounds on social media. The elderly woman performed the stunt to spread awareness about the non-venomous snake. The video shows the woman fearlessly putting the snake around her neck in full public view.

The woman has been reportedly identified as Shakuntala Sutar who hails from Kasar Amboli village which is located in Pune's Mulshi Taluka. She showed remarkable courage and presence of mind when a rat snake (Dhaman) entered her home.

Instead of panicking or screaming for help, she did not show fear, created no chaos and calmly caught the snake herself. After catching the snake, she put it around her neck to spread awareness about snakes.

The dramatic but real-life incident stunned the people present at the spot, many of whom had rushed to the scene in fear. Shakuntala Sutar, however, remained calm and used the moment to educate people about snakes and why not all of them are dangerous.

What did Grandma Shakuntala say?

"There’s no need to panic when you see a snake. Not every snake is venomous. The rat snake doesn't harm humans, in fact, it’s helpful for farms as it eats rats and pests. People often kill snakes out of fear and superstition, which is wrong," she explained.

What is a Rat Snake (Dhaman)?

Rat snakes are non-venomous and commonly found across India. They are harmless to humans and are even considered beneficial for agriculture.

Internet Reacts

Internet users praised her fearless act and the effort she took to educate the community. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, with people applauding her bravery and wisdom.

A Message to Remember

Shakuntala Sutar’s actions prove that age is just a number and with the right knowledge and mindset, any situation can be handled, even one involving a live snake. Her message also reminds us of the importance of co-existing with wildlife and overcoming fear with understanding.
