OUR STAFF REPORTER Indore Fear of khaki seems to be fast diminishing and incidents of roughing up cops in the city are on rise.
In the latest incident, a policeman, w ho had gone to arrest a person with a warrant, was beaten up by
the accused and his accomplices, w ho also tore up his uniform.
This is the third such incident within a couple of weeks and is a cause of concern.
According to Khudel police, the incident occurred in Mundala Dostdar. Mohanlal of the village was wanted by the police in connection with a crime and was declared absconder by the court.
Two days ago, the police received information about his whereabouts and a police team comprising head constable Omprakash, constables Sandeep Raghuvanshi and Rajendra from Khudel police was dispatched to nab him.
The cops nabbed Mohanlal and got him into the vehicle when Mohanlals accomplices— Shekhar, Radhyeshyam, Rak esh and Manju— arrived on the scene and demanded that Mohanlal be released.
The policemen refused to do so and an argument ensued between them during which the accused roughed up constable Sandeep and tore his uniform.
They released Mohanlal and took him away with them.
Constable Sandeep called up his police station and sought reinforcements but by that time, the accused had fled the scene.
A search is on for Mohanlal.
Meanwhile, police have rounded up several accomplices of Mohanlal.
