Ujjain: MPISSR seminar on agricultural crisis begins

Ujjain: A two-day seminar on ‘Crisis in Agriculture Sector in Rural India: Issues and challenges’ commenced at Madhya Pradesh Institute of Social Science and Research, here on Tuesday.

In the opening session of the seminar, chief guest Rajendra Mishra, chief consultant of Planning Commission, Bhopal, said India had the largest agriculture land compared to other big countries like America and China. Due to different policies of the Indian government, the agriculture sector in India had seen immense growth since Independence. He also discussed the growth of agriculture sector in MP and the different policies of MP government. DM Diwakar from AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies, Patna in his address said since Independence India had advanced immensely in agriculture, thus becoming self sufficient. He threw light on the issues faced by farmers like waning quality of soil, dependence on climate and loan etc. Nalini Rewadikar chaired the event. Yatindra Singh Sisodiya delivered the welcome speech and talked about the significance of the seminar. Manu Gautam proposed the vote of thanks.
