OUR STAFF REPORTER Indore The process of procuring wheat from the farmers at Lakshmibai Nagar Mandi is embroiled in mismanagement.
The government system has collapsed completely and the farmers wishing to sell their wheat are not re
ceiving their SMS messages as promised by the government.
The government had introduced a new system whereby the farmers were asked to register themselves and then receive SMS message giving them date and time on which they would bring their wheat for sale. However, the system ran into trouble because SMS messages were to be sent via governments NIC website and the problem was who would send the messages on holiday.
This system failure results in a number of farmers reaching the mandi and adversely affecting the wheat procurement. Farmers are forced to wait for hours before they could get their chance and thereby situation becoming critical.
According to sources, Deputy Registrar, Mahendra Dixit reached Mandi on surprise visit on Tuesday.
He was shocked to see torn gunny sacks to store wheat purchased from the farmers and took strong objection to the same. The employees present told him that this was regular practice at the mandi.
Dixit then checked the sacks randomly and found nearly two dozen sacks in torn condition. Taking a serious note of the situation he seized the torn sacks and made out a panchnama on the spot. He also found farmers waiting to sell their wheat. Dixit is believed to have informed the district administration of the mismanagement.
Repetition of last year According to sources, the gross mismanagement is repetition of the last year when a large number of torn sacks were discovered at the mandi. The sacks are supplied by private parties through Civil Supplies Corporation and some 25000 sacks were found to be torn and money was deducted at that time. Dixit has directed the officials concerned to note the names of the suppliers whose material has been found below par.
