LAXMI PUNJABI Mumbai After much protests and blame- game there seems to be a ray of hope for jewelers in the Western suburbs.
From next fortnight, the Goregaon police will post two armed policemen outside every jewellery market in
Goregaon ( West) every day from 8 am to 9 pm.
Senior Police Inspector of Goregaon Police Station Arun Parshuram Jadhav said police escorts would be available for jewellers going to deliver valuables.
CCTV cameras will be installed at the markets. Also, beat marshals will be allotted to cover 30 points in every hour. Jadhav says that the Station Road in Goregaon itself has about 45 shops and hence is a vulnerable area. The other crucial market is the MG Road in Goregaon ( West). A surveillance system will also start off which will monitor the market area from the control room.
Jeweller Bharat Rathod said, ” We are very grateful to DCP Mahesh Patil and to the Goregaon police for their co- cooperation and support. We can now feel secure at work.” Rathod said that the jewellers are also readying themselves with safety precautions and alertness. Jadhav concluded by saying that this new change is preliminary, but the best of protection can be expected by it.
