Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to take immediate steps to ensure the safe release of Sukma District Collector Alex Paul Menon, who abducte

d by Maoists in Chhattisgarh two days ago.

Alex Paul Menon is a native of Tamil Nadus southern Tirunelveli district. Interestingly, his father, a Tamilian, had named him Menon inspired by the countrys first Defence Minister V K Krishna Menon, a Keralite.

In her letter, Jayalalithaa said she was worried about Menons health condition and was fervently looking forward to the good news of his early release.

Menons wife Asha had told the media that Menon is an asthmatic patient and would find it difficult to manage without an inhaler.

” It is very unfortunate that the officer was abducted while he was discharging his official duties as the District Collector,” Jayalalithaa said while calling for his release.
