Ujjain: An ancient rare coin with the portrait of King Vikramaditya was found at Ashwini Research Institute ( ARI) of Mahidpur. The exact statistics of the age of King Vikramaditya will be observed through the coin.
It is estimated that the coin is over 2000 years old. The real image of Vikramaditya will be inscribed on the canvas with the help of the coin so that it can be displayed during the Vikramotsava and other programmes.
According to secretary ARI, Dr Raman Solanki, the discovery of two coins was revealed during a meeting regarding the Vikramotsava in Bhopal. The meeting was chaired by Culture Minister Lakshmikant Sharma. MP Tourism Development Corporation chairman Mohan Yadav and Vikramaditya Research Institute director Dr Bhagwatilal Rajpurohit were also present. Detailing about the rare coins, Yadav said that two coins have been found with the help of ARI president, Dr RC Thakur. The two coins which have the images of Vikramaditya and his father Gandharvsen on their surfaces will be the rarest coins of ancient history.
The finding of the coins is an archeological achievement for the ARI and it will help to canvas the real image of King Vikramaditya.
The coins carry the portrait of Vikramaditya and the words alt145 Vikramalt39and alt145 Ujjainialt39were found inscribed on them. Another coin has the portrait of the father of Vikramaditya. Two portraits will be prepared through these coins. Notably, the portrait which has been displayed by the organising committees of the Vikramotsava is an imaginary one.
