Preparation in full swing for VU’s convocation

Ujjain : Preparations are in full swing for convocation on the Vikram University (VU) campus here. The university will hold its annual convocation this Friday. VU is busy preparing for its 21st convocation ceremony on Friday when as many as 279 graduate and postgraduate students of the 2012-13 batches will be felicitated.

Governor-cum-chancellor Ramnaresh Yadav, Higher Education Minister Umashankar Gupta, Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and Prof R Venkat Rao and a host of high-profile people are expected to grace the occasion. No wonder the university is leaving no stone unturned to make the big day a success.

A run through meeting is called on July 22nd where, faculty members, deans and vice chancellor JL Kaul will review the preparations for the convocation ceremony. It was also told that, “The cabinet minister will hand over gold medals to our toppers. This time, 22 gold medals will be distributed. To ensure the quality check two rehearsals have been organized at July 23 and 24. The rehearsals will ensure, convocation walk with dignitaries, distribution of medals and certificates and stage operation. Rehearsal on July 23 will commence from 4 pm while two rehearsals have been scheduled for July 24 onwards 10 am and 4 pm

Among others, Minister Paras Jain, MP Chintamani Malviya, MLA Mohan Yadav and well-known academics will be present on the occasion. The university, which is spending good money on the show, has distributed gowns of different colours among students, faculty members and guests. The degree conferrers will wear maroon gowns, faculty member’s red, while postgraduates and graduates will don black gowns.

Registrar BL Bunkar said preparations for the big event were almost complete. A big tent has been erected at the venue with a seating capacity of around thousand. “We have already sent invitation letters. Only those carrying the letters will be allowed inside the venue,” he said.
