Ujjain: Police suspected involvement of an inter- state thieves’ gang which had stolen the antique idol of Lord Ganesh, on Friday.Police had arrested three suspects recovering gold and gems plated idol on Thursday. Police arrested three accused persons who were trying to sell the idol in the market.

According to Mahakal police station in- charge SC Sharma, two persons were arrested along with the antique idol from Nand restaurant at Mahakal area on Thursday night on the tip- off. On being interrogated accused Rihaulhaq, 43, bought the idol from someone in Baroda Gujarat at the cost of Rs 1.5 lakh. Rihaulhaq runs a jewelry shop at Chandni Chowk in Ratlam. Rihaulhaq sold the idol to Sagir Ali, 30, son of Rehman Ali, resident of Abdalpura at the cost of Rs 4.2 lakh.
He gave cash of Rs 2 lakh to Rihaulhaq and gold instead of rest of the amount. Sagir Ali also runs a jewelry shop named SS Jewelers in Lakherwadi.While both Rihaulhaq and Sagir Ali were having the deal, third accused Akram, 40, son of Ilmuddin, resident of Gudri Square demanded his share.
Akram is also a jeweler. Police booked three accused and interrogating them further to get clues about the right owner of the idol. Rihaulhaq is a native of Bangladesh. He has been involved in such activities for long time. Police are expecting involvement of a thieves’ gang in the case. Police are also taking help of social media to search for the owner of the idol.
