ZEESHAN SHAIKH Mumbai After the murder of Nasir Shaikh, ( 39), a police informer from Wadala, who provided crucial information to many police officers, informers across Mumbai are upset that the police fail to protect their lives.

After every murder of an informer, the number of informants falls down, explains a alt39 khabrialt39 ( informer) from Dongri, on the condition of anonymity.

The narrow lanes of Dongri, Nagpada, Null Bazaar, once a hotbed of veteran gangsters became an area of khabris when their leaders left India. Becoming a police informer has become risky after the murder of Irfan Chindi in 2009, explains a police informer from Dongri.

Irfan Chindi who had a team of 300 informers across Mumbai was famously known as an informer of Vijay Salaskar.

After Chindis death, informers across Mumbai came on camera by covering their faces with veil and expressed their anger over the laid- back attitude of the police force in providing them cover.

One of Irfans co- informer from Duncan Road ( name withheld) told FPJ that the network of informers across Mumbai has reduced to 35% after the death of their leader. Before Irfans death, there was a powerful network of 650 police informers from Mumbai to Kalyan but after his death the number has reduced to 250 across Mumbai.

Another police informer from Nagpada who knew Nasir Shaikh said that Nasir had a powerful network across the city. Further explaining the problem of informers, he alleged that nowadays there is a leak from the police department itself due to which informers are murdered.

This had led to informers quitting this profession very fast.

” If there is no informer working for police then how will police operate without proper information,” said a local informer from Null Bazaar.

Nasir Shaikh, ( 39), an informer of deceased police officer Vijay Salaskar and encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma was brutally murdered on Monday evening near MHADA Transit Camp, Wadala, by Jagya Nepali and his gang members from Matunga, who are currently under the police custody.

According to many eyewitnesses of transit camp, Nisar was stabbed by swords, knifes and choppers in front of the residents.

According to DCP, Keshav Patil, Nasir had provided crucial information about Jagya Nepalis brother, Shirkya Nepali, a local gang member of Matunga in 2006. On basis of this tipoff, the squad of Additional Commissioner of Police, Bipin Bihari and Pradeep Sharma encountered Shirkya 6 years back.

The recent murder of Nasir Shaikh, Vijay Salaskars informer, has upset informers who believe that the police fail to protect their lives
