Ujjain: Old animosity over land between adav and Sengar families took the life of Congress corporator and Leader of Opposition in Ujjain Municipal Corporation ( UMC) Prem Kumar adav alias Gappu adav here on Tuesday evening. This was the third murder in rivalry of the two families.

Two unidentified accused shot adav dead while he was coming out of UMC headquarter’s parking lot at about 6.10 pm. Two accused escaped away on a Honda Activa after shooting adav with a 12 bore gun from short distance. Bullets pierced the body of adav and got stuck into his left abdomen.
Corporator Dilip Parmar and Mohanlal Lalawat rushed adav to the Civil Hospital ( CH) where he was administered a unit of blood.
Doctors looking at the critical condition of adav referred him to CHL Apollo Hospital where doctors declared him dead. SP Anurag confirmed the death of adav to Free Press. He also told that two unidentified accused were booked under Section 302 of IPC. Sensation prevailed in the city after the news of the death of adav. About 1,000 local Congress leaders and party workers gathered at CH after hearing the gruesome attack on adav. Heavy police force was deployed at the hospital considering the tense situation. Senior Congress corporator Azad adav, District Congress Committee president Anantnarayan Meena, Jay Singh Darbar, Prem Singh adav, corporators Ravi Rai, Jitendra Tilkar and others approached the hospital. IG V Madhu Kumar, DIG IP Kulshreshtha and SP Anurag also reached the spot.
The IG directed the SP to conduct checking at all the check posts in the city and outside it. FSL team reached the spot and started investigation of the case. The police are trying to get some clue by footages grabbed by CCTV cameras installed at nearby banks.
DGP Nandan Dubey announced reward of Rs 50, 000 on arrest of accused. Nearby residents said some people ran behind the accused after they shot adav. They also fired in the air twice to scare the people.

Sources said deceased Prem Kumar adav and his friend cum corporator Kundan adav had met collector BM Sharma on Monday. Informed sources told Free Press that adav was the third victim of the old rivalry breeding over a disputed land between adav and Sengar family. Gopal adav, brother of deceased Prem Kumar adav was murdered in 2005 over the dispute of land located at Chintaman Road. Later in 2006, accused of Gopal adav murder case was killed by adav family while he was being produced in the court. Deceased Prem Kumar adav and his brother Vinod adav were accused in Sengar murder case. Deceased adav had to abscond for a couple of years in that case. The dispute between the two families got settled after they reached a compromised a few years back.
Sources also said that 10th Additional District Judge Dipesh Tiwari took cognizance of the case and filed a case suo- motto as accused Vinod adav became hostile while delivering the statement against the accused of his brother Gopal adav. Terminated librarian of Government Madhav College, Govind Singh Kushwah was one of the accused of Govind adav murder case. Sources also said adav was not directly involved in the land dispute case, but being a politically sound and former Bar Association president, adav helped his siblings many times. As per the latest updates by SP Anurag, the body of adav was shifted to the mortuary of CH. Autopsy will be performed on Tuesday morning by a panel of doctors and the body will be handed over to the kin for funeral. DCC city president Anantnarayan Meena has called a city bandh for half day on Wednesday.
ONE MORE LAND DISPUTE CASE TOOK LIFE OF CONG CORPORATOR EARLIER
Another land dispute case that led to animosity between families of deceased notorious miscreant Khadag Singh and Congress corporator Akhilesh Vyas took life of some people earlier in the city. The dispute occurred between two families over a land located at Dharambalda village on Barnagar road. Miscreant Khadag Singh was murdered and later Congress corporator Akhilesh Vyas and his friends were murdered.
