Ujjain: A special meeting convened by the AICC vicepresident and Congress’ Lok Sabha- 2014 election campaign head, Rahul Gandhi, at Bhopal on Monday to know the reasons of the party’s debacle in the Assembly Elections- 2013 finished without any concrete outcome.
All seven defeated Congress candidates, besides about one dozen party office- bearers of the district, reached the Pradesh Congress Committee ( PCC) headquarters to apprise Gandhi about the main reasons of their defeat.
But, most of them got frustrated as less time was given for the crucial meeting. One of the defeated candidates, requesting anonymity, told Free Press that the endeavour of Rahul Gandhi through Monday’s meeting was noting but a gimmick as no concrete outcome is expected to arrive out of it.
Defeated candidate from Mahidpur Kalpana Parulekar ( former MLA) remained conspicuous due to her absence as it was whispered that she has been making all- out efforts to join the Aam Aadmi Party. Rest six defeated candidates attended the meeting, but only Mahesh Patel ( Barnagar) got the chance to express his submission in short.
Patel reportedly told Gandhi that he lost the election due to saboteurs and party should take toughest action against such elements otherwise it may have to face the similar situation in the Assembly Elections- 2018.
According to sources, another defeated candidate Vivek adav ( Ujjain North) handed over an envelope to Gandhi as he failed to express his submissions.
It was whispered that he demanded him to take action against former MLA Rajendra Bharati, PCC spokesperson Noori Khan and corporator Maya Trivedi. He apprised Gandhi that all these persons had also sought ticket, but filed nomination papers as independent candidate and withdrew the paper after four days, which gave wrong message among the party’s rank and file and the electorates at large.
