Ujjain : To promote the importance and objective of breastfeeding, the district will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week from Friday.
Woman and Child Development department organised a media workshop at Brahaspathi Bhavan under the chairmanship of Additional Collector Indira Sharma, here on Thursday.
It was informed during the workshop that breastfeeding is like an elixir for infants. Nani- Dadi dialogue will be organised on the first day of World Breastfeeding Week. Sharma urged media persons during the workshop that they should convey the relevance and objectives of breastfeeding in far off areas.
She also requested office bearers of Voluntary Organisations to adopt malnourished children and make people aware about the importance of breastfeeding.
UNICEF coordinator Jaya Subhash gave a PPT presentation and provided detailed information about facts related to breastfeeding. She told that mother’s milk is very beneficial for infant. It makes positive effect on the health of mother and children. An infant should be breastfed for six months from the birth. On the first day of Breastfeeding Week, Nani- Dadi dialogue will be organised.
A quiz and role play will be organised for girls on second day, sports and healthy child competition on third day, village health ad- hoc committee dialogue and several other programmes will be organised respectively. Regional Manager Atul Kulshreshtha, WCD district programme officer Dr Nishi Singh, assistant director Rajiv Gupta and others were present. Dr Reena Adharvyu conducted the programme.
