. OUR STAFF REPORTER BHOPAL Minister of state for tribal welfare Harishankar Khatik has said that protection of tribal culture while ensuring development has been a challenging task.

ty in the country due to its diversity.
There is need to work effectively on various dimensions of culture by forming a team of experts.
Khatik was addressing a two- day seminar focusing on tribal culture at Academy of Administration here.
On the occasion, Korku grammar prepared by Prof.
Jagdish Chandra Sharma was also released. Director Tribal Research and Development K. Suresh was also present on the occasion.
Minister of State Khatik said that it is necessary to safeguard tribal dialects since they conserve history of thousands of years, be it knowledge about herbs, traditional craft and social beliefs.
If these tribal dialects become extinct, then not only knowledge and important clues to human evolution will also be lost. He said that the Tribal Welfare Department is making better efforts towards conservation of tribal culture.
A dictionary of tribal dialect Bhilali has been prepared, which contains 5,500 words.
Collection of 25 folk tales of Gondi dialect have also been compiled and translated into Hindi.
Audio- video recording of Bhilali and Gondi songs has also been made. Training in tribal traditional dances and music is also being imparted to students at 78 tribal hostels in the state.

Jagdish Chandra Sharma said that it is also necessary to safeguard tribal dialects since they encompass history of thousands of years.
Every tribal dialect is rich in diverse knowledge.
It is also necessary to publish books on the history of these dialects.
He lauded works being done in Madhya Pradesh about tribal dialects.
