Rekha named to counter Jayas star power

The nomination of veteran cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and actress Rekha to the Rajya Sabha has set tongues wagging. While the cricket fraternity lauded the nomination of Tendulkar, Rekhas nomin

ation has sparked rumours about the Congress attempt to counter the SPs star power Jaya Bachchan.

Obsessed with cricket, Bollywood

Why was Sachin in a hurry to give his nod for the Rajya Sabha seat? People wonder whether the bluster will make a single positive contribution except complete the mandatory attendance. The nomination of Tendulkar and the film actress Rekha once again proves that Indians are obsessed with cricket and Bollywood.

Wishing good luck to Sachin

The nomination of Sachin Tendulkar to the Rajya Sabha, one wonders whether he will find time to attend to the upper house business and perform his duties. Anyway, wishing him good luck in his role as MP. S Chad, Mumbai Autonomous rly corp for city a must Mumbai badly needs an autonomous corporation to run Mumbais locals, and the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation is the ideal body.

During Mamata Banerjees tenure as the Railway Minister, the Kolkata Metro became an independent zone of the Indian Railways. Why not Mumbai? A minor fire in signal cabins of Central Railway recently disrupted Mumbais lifeline. An autonomous corporation for Mumbai will be able to take quick decisions for the benefit of lakhs of commuters of both the Central and the Western Railway.

Deendayal M Lulla, Goregaon Whats our Mumbai MPs doing? Our representatives in the Lok Sabha are there in the House to collect Rs one lakh a month. The three Mumbai MPs suddenly woke up when the FPJ took up the issue of Central Railway disaster.

Where were the other three MPs when the disaster took place? Mumbaikars should not vote for them next time.

Autonomous corp is no answer

This refers to alt39 If Kolkata can do it, why not Mumbai.alt39 Kolkata is no ideal example as far as urban transport is concerned. ” Autonomy” is not the solution for preventing accidents. Take for example the Konkan Rail Corpn. Its an autonomous body. Doesnalt39t it have its share of accidents in Indian Railways? The correct course for any zonal railway is to be alert 24x7x52.

Govt made mega mess of economy

Standard and Poors credit rating shows Indian economy in bad light by blaming the Government for its downgrade. That till 2014 we canalt39t expect much improvement in the Indian economy is a sad picture indeed. The policy paralysis and Governments misconceived priorities are responsible for this mega mess. The Finance Ministry is showing signs weakness with a number of scams hitting the government.

Banks must have same int rates

There was a time when all nationalised banks used to have the same interest- rates for deposits.

But in alt39 freealt39 economy, depositors are utterly confused over PSU banks having different interest- rates for FDs. Interest rates should be common for all banks at least among PSU banks.

Land- grabbing by politicians

The government has done nothing to evict bureaucrats and politicians government from premises allotted to them. President Pratibha Patil has been allotted a land in Pune apparently till her lifetime. But this land will never be returned. Like in the Adarsh case, they change land documents, rule books, etc. All politicians are alike who grab land and never return.

Will J& K CM be denied US visa?

The White House mandarins seem to have adopted a ” secular” attitude while repeatedly denying visa to the Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, citing his alleged role in the 2002 Godhra riots.

By the same yardstick, this criterion would be put to test if an ex or the
