Congress heir- apparent and general secretary Rahul Gandhi is returning here late Saturday night after attending on his ailing mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi who underwent surgery in a New York

hospital last week.

His return to take the reins of the party as part of a small 4- member caretaker team named by Sonia before being flown out two weeks ago indicates that she is now better and convalescing well to let him return to Delhi.

The Congress has convened a press conference at the AICC headquarters on Sunday at 1 pm for some important announcement. The press meet on Sunday is most unusual and hence speculation is that Rahul may hold a meeting with Ahmed Patel, A K Antony and Janardan Dwivedi who are part of the caretaker group on Sunday morning to take some key decisions.

An important job that Sonia left unfinished and which Rahul may complete as one of his tasks is the formalisation of the merger of the Praja Rajyam Party of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi with the Congress. He will be also presiding over the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana award ceremony on August 20 to mark the birth anniversary of his late father.
