Ujjain: A doctor was manhandled by kin of a patient, who was died while receiving treatment at Civil Hospital (CH), here on Tuesday.Mahesh, 50, of Jaisinghpura was hospitalized at around 1 pm on Monday afternoon after he critically fell ill at his home. Mahesh died while receiving treatment at the hospital on Tuesday morning. Dr Nigam was doing treatment of the patient who was suffering badly from lung infection.
Deceased’s relatives claimed Dr Nigam for practicing negligence in treatment of the patient. District hospital doctors said kin of the patient manhandled Dr Nigam on Tuesday morning over the death of Mahesh.
Sources said Dr Nigam had prescribed only those medicines which are provided by hospital, while relative forced him to prescribe market medicines to which he refused. Upset over this, and considering medicines as cause of death, relatives got irked over the doctor and manhandled the doctor.
When asked Dr Nigam said patient was very critical, and was suffering from severe lung infection and organ failure. He did not file an FIR against attendants as hospital is already in sufferings.
Later doctors filed a formal grievance application at Kotwali police station saying, “We are here to treat the patients, not to be humiliated. The authority has persistently been failed to ensure our security in the emergency ward as several incidents of manhandling with the doctors have taken place during a short span of time,” and authority needs to be informed. Such incidents are on the rise at district hospital. Often duty doctors are manhandled by kin of patients.
