Ujjain : State government is all set to float tenders for carrying out infrastructural works at the proposed ‘Vikram Udyogpuri’ near Ujjain. “Infrastructural works will be carried out while spending Rs 290 crore and tenders will be floated shortly at global level,” informed sources dislcosed to Free Press adding that the proposed Knowledge City will be developed as Smart City.
It was earlier conceptualised as Knowledge City and was to house prime educational institutes. The site for the proposed Vikram Udyogpuri is located about 15 km from Ujjain and 17 km from Dewas on the Ujjain-Dewas Road near Narwar village in Ujjain district. It has a total area of 442.79 hectare (1096.63 acre). Project will have sustainable economic base primarily driven by industries (manufacturing) integrated with institutional (public and semi-public use) and supported by residential land use and commercial activities. The township would consist of automotive and auto-components, IT/ITeS and engineering services industries and educational institutions, supported by residential, commercial and other urban facilities including supporting social and physical infrastructure to boost the same. Tata Consulting Engineers Lts was assigned the job of geotechnical investigation of the site and it has already submitted its detailed report.
The total revenue (direct and indirect) expected to be generated by the project is Rs 1,20,600 crore by 2040.The project is expected to generate an employment of 78000 (direct and indirect) by 2040. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had approved the development of trunk infrastructure for the integrated industrial township at Vikram Udyogpuri in the Pithampur, Dhar Mhow investment region of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project at an estimated project cost of Rs 808.60 crore for Stage-1 of the project. CCEA had also approved investment of Rs 59.50 crore as 50 percent equity contribution of DMIC Trust to the JVC for the project and further investment of Rs 372.80 crore as debt with a 10-year moratorium from the start of the project and 12-year repayment at an annual interest of 8.5 percent. The remaining 50 percent of the equity will be met by the State government.
The development of infrastructure industrial township at Vikram Udyogpuri is expected to attract private sector investments of around Rs 13,000 crore. The primary objectives of development of the township is to initiate industrial development, enabling the Pithampur, Dhar Mhow Investment region to take off, while providing essential infrastructure and services to support establishment of institutions which would create the skilled and employable work force. It will drive manufacturing and act as a catalyst for the growth of industrial development of the DMIC region by attracting skilled human resources. In addition to significant economic benefits, the project will also have a multiplier effect on the region including employment generation and revenue generation. The development of the integrated industrial township mainly targets non-polluting industries and knowledge related uses on the lines of a green city.
