OUR BUREAU New Delhi India will press for execution of a Letter Rogatory sent out by the National Investigation Agency ( NIA) to Islamabad last month for arrest and deportation of Lashkar- e- Toiba ( LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed and six others

in the 26/ 11 plot and subsequent plans to attack more Indian targets.

The Letter Rogatory is based on a chargesheet filed by NIA before the Mumbai court in December. The chargesheet takes Saeeds role beyond the 26/ 11 terror attacks on Mumbai, holding him responsible for a larger conspiracy to carry out such attacks all over the country.

While the dossier given to Pakistan earlier seeking out Saeed was limited to his role in 26/ 11, the NIA chargesheet and Letter Rogatory outlines how he persuaded David Coleman Headley to join the LeT and carry out recce operations in various parts of India to select the targets.

” The conspiracy was hatched in or around 2005 by the leaders of the Lashkar and HuJI such as Hafiz Saeed, Zaki- ur- Rehman Lakhvi and Ilyas Kashmiri, with active support from the service officers of the Pakistan Army working for the ISI, such as Major Sameer Ali and Major Iqbal, to organise spectacular terrorist attacks on sensitive targets in India over a long period of time,” reads the chargesheet.

Sources in the Home Ministry say the dossier on Saeed and six other Pakistani masterminds behind the 26/ 11 attacks is being updated with the NIA chargesheet and the same will be handed over to the Pakistans interior minister during the proposed visit of Union Home Secretary R K Singh to Islamabad next month for the home secretary- level talks. Pakistan wanted his visit this month, but he suggested that a visit in May suits him.
