. FP NEWS SERVICE Ujjain Minister of State ( MoS) for Food and Civil Supply Paras Jain has said that he would have been a big grain merchant, but became unemployed after opting social service as he diverted himself from the business.
According to the MoS, 34 lakh ton wheat procurement has been done so far in the State against the target of 75 lakh ton. Last year, 49 lakh ton wheat was procured.
He admitted that there was an acute shortage of gunny bags as despite placing orders some four months prior to the commencement of procurement, the Central government has failed to make available 3.20 lakh bundles of gunny bags to the State.
Jain also informed that tenders amounting to Rs 600 crore to purchase gunny bags were being called and in the meantime 50, 000 bundles of plastic bags have been purchased to overcome the crisis. He also admitted that there was huge shortage of go- downs as only 41 lakh ton wheat can be stored as of now.
‘Recently we have got a package of Rs 574 crore and it will be utilised for constructing chain of warehouses,’he added.
During question- answer session, Paras Jain appeared quite happy with his performance as an MLA, though he could not defend his side confidently when being asked why he has listed similar works in his credit book which were carried in other Assembly segments.
He assured that he will provide facility of swimming pool soon. He also said that ongoing Simhastha- 2016 preparation works will be speeded- up.
