Gurpurab celebrated with fervour in city

Ujjain : Devotees celebrated Gurpurab, the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, with much fanfare and fervour the in city on Wednesday.

Celebrations were held at the Freeganj, Doodhtalai and other gurudwaras where a large number of devotees started visiting since morning. Special prayers were recited to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. The devotees recited Sukhmani Sahib and recited special prayers. They pledged to work for uplift of the society. They said collective efforts are needed for banishing social evils from the society.

Hectic activity started early in the morning in all gurdwaras of the town as women devotees cooked langer for the devotees. Kirtan and shabads filled the air all over the city. Nagar kirtans or religious processions were taken out earlier. This time the occasion was also special as many of the Sikh families has observed black Deepawali owing to sacrilege events in Punjab, the families had decided to celebrate the festival on Gurupurab.

The Samarpit Social group organised a bhandara at the Chhatri Chowk, which was participated by thousands. MLA Mohan Yadav, BJP city president Iqbal Singh Gandhi, Sumit Barwaya, Harpal Singh Chawla, Purushottam Singh Chawla were present.
