Ten- year- old Neel alt39 The Eelalt39 Roy of Khar Gymkhana established two new meet records while winning a remarkable six gold that earned him the individual championship, in the 29th Otters Open Swimming &
Diving Championship at the Otters Club, Bandra.
Following nine- year- old Kenisha Guptas sensational effort on the opening day, Roys performance on the second and concluding day of the meet ensured glory for the little- known sub juniors, amidst a host of established swimmers.
Roy, the national 100m freestyle gold medallist, burst onto the scene with new meet records in the 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley for boysalt39 under- 11 and added the 50m breast stroke, butterfly, backstroke and 4×50 freestyle relay gold for a complete domination.
In his quest for glory, Roy, of Arya Vidya Mandir, Bandra staved off stiff competition from arch- rival and club mate Ishaan Nagarkatti who finished second in the breast, back and individual medley and third in the butterfly.
Roys spectacular show overshadowed the other outstanding performances of boysalt39 under- 15 champion Jason Smith, also of Khar Gymkhana, who set three new meet records en route to winning four gold and two silver, and under- 13 champion Saumya Vora of NSCI who set new meet records in the 100m and 200m freestyle while also winning four gold and two silver.
Kenisha Gupta added the under- 9 50m- butterfly gold for a tally of five gold, including three new meet records, which earned her the individual championship.
Amongst the other outstanding girls, were under- 11 champion Muskaan Tolani of Otters Club with five gold and a silver including a new meet record, and under- 13 champion Neha Prasad of Khar Gymkhana with six gold including a new meet record.
