Quake shakes southern Mexico Mexico

City: A magnitude- 5.4 earthquake shook southern Mexico early on Friday morning, causing no reported damage but swaying tall buildings in the capital of Mexico City about 420 kilometres away. The

US Geological Survey says the quakes epicentre was located about 11 kilometres off Mexicos Pacific Coast near the town of Pinotepa Nacional in southern Oaxaca state at 5: 10 am local time. A magnitude- 5.3 aftershock followed about three hours later.

Briton gouges out girlfriends eyes

London: A 33- year- old Briton has admitted he blinded his girlfriend – a mother of two – by gouging out her eyes in a premeditated and vicious attack. Shane Jenkin, of Sea Lane, Cornwall, also strangulated 31- year- old Tina Nash and severely beat her, fracturing her jaw and breaking her nose, alt39 BBCalt39 reported on Friday. He was arrested after assaulting Nash at her house in Hayle in April last year. Jenkin also kept her imprisoned in the house for 12 hours after the attack, the Truro Crown Court heard.

Hot air balloon disrupts flights

London: F lights were temporarily halted on Friday in Londons second largest airport Gatwick after a hot air balloon flew into its airspace. Planes had to wait on the tarmac after airport officials feared the balloon could cause an accident, alt39 The Sunalt39 reported. The airport said all departures were halted for safety reasons just after 9 a. m.

A spokeswoman said only five departing flights were affected by the delay while the balloon moved away.

The airport was not closed and arrival flights still landed, she said. In another incident Friday, a hot air balloon crashed into power lines near West Haddlesey, North Yorkshire. A pilot and nine passengers had a lucky escape.
