27 injured in 4 blasts in Ukraine
Kiev: F our blasts within minutes rocked the centre of the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipropetrovsk today, injuring at least 27 people, including nine children, in what prosecutors believed was a te
rrorist attack, officials said. Emergency Situations Ministry spokeswoman Yulia Yershova said the first blast occurred at a tramway stop in the centre of Dnipropetrovsk, injuring 13 people. The second injured 11 people near a school, including the nine children, while the third wounded three near a railway station.
A fourth blast was also heard in the city centre, Yershova said. It was unclear whether anybody was injured. Interior Minister Vitaly Zakharchenko and the deputy heads of the Prosecutor Generals Office and the national security service were flying to Dnipropetrovsk.
Prosecutorsalt39 spokesman Yuri Boichenko said investigators are treating the blasts as a terrorist attack.
President Viktor Yanukovych called the explosions ” yet another challenge for the whole country,” and said that Ukraines best investigators will be working on the case.
KFC asked to pay for girls brain damage
Melbourne: A Australian court on Friday ordered the fast food giant KFC to pay 8 million Australian dollars to the parents of a Sydney girl who was left paralysed and brain damaged after eating its chicken twister. Monika Samaan fell seriously ill with salmonella poisoning after eating at the Villawood KFC in 2005, according to media reports. The then- sevenyear- old was in a coma for six months and acquired spastic quadraplegia with severe brain damage. A New South Wales Supreme Court judge today ruled KFC will have to pay 8 million Australian dollars plus legal costs after the lengthy litigation case. KFC denied it was responsible for the poisoning and said it will appeal the decision. In a statement, the restaurant said the case was clearly tragic but they were ” deeply disappointed and surprised” by Judge Rothmans decision.
Mexican pregnant with nine babies
London: A Mexican woman, who has already given birth to triplets, is now pregnant with nine babies. Karla Vanessa Perez – whose age was not disclosed – is expecting six girls and three boys. The babies were conceived using fertility treatment and are due May 20, the alt39 Daily Mailalt39 reported citing Mexicos main broadcaster alt39 Televisaalt39. Perez is a resident of the northeastern state of Coahuila, which borders the US state of Texas. ” Its very early to think of names for the babies. First I hope that everything goes well,” Perez said. The successful delivery of the nine babies would be one of the highest multiple births ever recorded.
