Fifth episode of classical recital & dance to mesmerize audience today

The fifth episode of this years Shrawan Mahotsava, which is organized every year on the sidelines of holy Shrawan- Bhadav monthsalt39traditional sawari of Lord Mahakal, will be full of musical extravaganza.

The reason is simple: three well known artists of the country will give their presentation at Mahakal Pravachan Hall from 7 pm on Sunday.

According to the Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee spokesperson Gauri Joshi, presence of audience during earlier episode of cultural presentations under Shrawan Mahotsava- 2011 was over- whelming and it has prompted them to bring more and more celebrities of cultural world at the Mahakal City.

On this Sunday, the programme will begin with the vocal recital of Aarti Ankalikar- Tikekar from Pune. It will be followed by a programme of Kathak dance by Indores Nupur Dube and Sonal Tiwari.

Aarti is a singer of Indian classical music. She is currently recognized as one of the top vocalists of the younger generation.

She started her training with veteran Late Pandit Vasantrao Kulkarni of the Agra Gwalior gharanas.

Thereafter she received training from none other than Kishori Amonkar of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana.

She is continuing her training under Pandit Dinkar Kulkarni. Endowed with a rich resonant voice, Aartis performances are marked by an excellent command over both the rhythm and the melody.

Aarti has performed at many prestigious conferences in India, such as the Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav ( Pune), the Malhar Utsav ( Delhi), Pandit Mallikarjun Mansoor Pranam ( Bhopal), the Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan ( Mumbai), the Dover Lane Festival ( Calcutta), the Shankarlal Festival ( Delhi) and at Sabhas organized by the Madras Music Academy ( Chennai). She has been on concert tours to USA, Canada, UK and UAE. Recipient of a Central Government scholarship ( 1975– 80) and the Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar scholarship ( 1980– 82), Arati stood first in the All India Radio competition held during 1983 and 1984 in Indian classical music, thumri and gazal and was awarded gold medal in all the three categories.

Aarti has received Mayor Award ( 2001) and prestigious Late Pt Kumar Gandharva Samman ( 2006– 07, MP).
