OUR STAFF REPORTER BHOPAL Devendra Singh Rawat was declared elected for the post of the president of District Bar Association, Bhopal after counting of votes of the biennial elections on Fr

iday. He defeated his nearest rival Priyanath Pathak by a margin of 440 votes. The counting for two junior and two senior executive members will be completed on Saturday.

Chief Election Officer Umesh Nigam informed that Purushottam Panjwani was elected as vicepresident, Himachal Sharma was declared elected as Secretary, Aditya Sharma as the joint secretary, Ravi Goyal as the treasurer and Vinod Chauksey as the library in- charge.

The counting was scheduled from 8 am but it was delayed due to demise of a member of bar association.

The counting began amidst tight security. The candidates and their supporters curiously waited for status after every round of counting.

Since initial stage of counting, Rawat was leading and finally declared elected. Due to delay the counting was not completed by 8 pm.The counting of votes for two junior and senior executive members will be restored at 11 am on Saturday, informed Nigam. The polling was held on Thursday and 2790 lawyers had cast their votes for 94 candidates in fray for 28 posts of the association.
