Played for university during exam season, seven students waiting for special exams for more than 100 days but to no avail thus far

OUR STAFF REPORTER Indore If you are thinking of playing for Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya ( D

AVV), think again.

Seven students did that and they are now running from pillar to post requesting the university babus to arrange special exams for them.

Despite rules for special examination in place for students participating in tournaments during exam season, the DAVV is not acting on applications of students, who represented the varsity and the state at national level.

Shivam Mishra, Imran Qurashi, Kunal Singh, Akanksha Devere, Rahul Borase, Vaibhav Khandekar – all students of BCom fifth semester, and Sumit Paliwal, a student of MA III semester, had gone to play in national and regional level tournaments in January when their semester exams were going on.

Because of tournaments, they missed two of their papers.

The varsity was informed about their participation in the tournaments by their respective colleges and requested for conducting special exams for the students once they returned.

‘In my application written on behalf of the students in January, I had cited the Department of Higher Education ( DHE)alt39s rules for sportsman, which are for special exams for students participating at state and national level tournaments.

Despite that, special exam has not been conducted for the students thus far,’Government Arts and Commerce College sports officer MK Mishra said.

More than three- and- ahalf- months have passed for the applications but the DAVV is yet to prepare file for necessary approval of authorities.

Terming the babudom alt145 disgustingalt39, Mishra said that the final semester exams would commence after three days even as they still wait to clear the fifth semester.

‘Even if students clear the final semester, their degree courses will remain incomplete until they clear two papers missed during the fifth semester exams,’added.

Mishra along with a faculty member of Christian College called on Dean- student welfare Dr Rajeev Dixit and requested him to conduct special exams of the two papers during the final semester exams.

The duo told the DSW that now they had to come to the university on behalf of the students as their efforts to get sluggish DAVV moved went in vain.

Dixit assured the duo that he himself would present the case before the vice chancellor and the registrar.

Six quit national tourney

A long with these seven players, three more students, who had gone outside city to represent DAVV in NSS function and Youth Festival during exams, are said to be waiting for special exams. Mishra said that six students selected for weight- lifting tournament at national and state level gave a miss to the tourney fearing that university would not conduct special exams for them. ‘Seeing the dilly- dallying attitude of the university, I think that they made the right decision,’he said and added ‘Unfortunately, the university which is expected to encourage sportsman is discouraging students playing for it.’
