Ujjain: The Namaz ( prayer) offered at Eidgah by Muslims to mark the festival of Eid- ul- Fitr was followed by warm exchange of greetings and embrace, here on Friday morning. Everyone right from the youngest to the oldest seemed to be sinking in the celebration of festival.
As the day broke, people started assembling at Eidgah to offer the main prayer after completion of 29 days of fasting during the holy month of Ramzan. City Quazi Khalikurrehman led the prayers at Eidgah. Muslim community, in their new outfits and traditional caps, stood in series of queues and bowed their heads before the almighty.
Children were seen quite excited enjoying swing ride and shopping at the fair outside the Eidgah. After the prayer was concluded at Eidgah, people headed towards their homes and greeted each other. Collector BM Sharma and SP Anurag Kumar were also present at Eidgah to supervise the arrangements.
Both the officials shared greetings with community people. In his address to the community people, City Quazi Khalikurrehman extended congratulations and conveyed a message of peace, harmony and brotherhood.
People also prayed for peace of departed souls of Uttarakhand tragedy on this occasion. Prayers were performed at more than scores of mosques located in the city at different times. Office bearers of political parties also extend greetings to community people.
The Eid specialty vermicelli was shared by people to dissolve the sweetness in relationships. ‘ Sheer- Khurma’ was cooked in the houses to mark the festival. The younger ones got Eidi ( gifts) from their elders on this occasion.
Markets remained opened till late night on Thursday as people were out in huge numbers for shopping of clothes, jewelries and sweets. Mayor Rameshwar Akhand, BJP Minority Morcha national president Tanveer Ahmed, MP State Haj Committee chairman Sanwar Patel, Ujjain Municipal Corporation Speaker Sonu Gehlot, Pradesh Congress Committee vice- president Rajendra Bharati, City Congress Committee president Anant Narayan Meena and others also visited the Eidgah to extend greetings to the Muslims.
