Ujjain: City seemed to be fully prepared to welcome Lord of Wisdom Shree Ganesha here on Wednesday. The 10- day festival will be celebrated with full devotion and fervour in the city.

Beautiful idols of Lord Ganesha will be installed in houses and pandals erected at various squares in city. From Wednesday onwards, people will be worshipping lord Ganesha for wisdom, peace and prosperity.

Heavy rush was prevailed in the markets here on Tuesday evening as people thronged to do shopping for festival of Ganesh Chaturdashi. Temporary shops were seen at Freeganj areas where idols of different shapes and sizes were showcased. Shops were established in a queue and were having colourful and attractive idols of Ganesha.

People were buying idols as per their status. Markets were also filled with accessories of festivity. Lord Ganesha’s favourite cuisine i.e. laddoo were on the top in the menu of sweet shops. Specially, kids were seen very enthusiastic in purchasing decoration stuff for tableaux to be prepared during the festival.

Idols have been brought from Pune, Mumbai,Agraand other cities to this temple town. One of the idol sellers, Ramprasad Gupta told that he has been selling idols for last several years. His ancestors also used to sell idols. Due to price hike, prices of idols have been hiked to 10 percent in comparison to last year. Idols of size of 5 to 10 ft have been seen in the city.

Likewise, sculptor Chandrakant Quril of Dewasgate who has been making idols for last 45 years said that several attractive and beautiful idols have been prepared this year. Quril has prepared famous idol of Lal Bagh ke Raja, Mumbai this time. Idols’ range extends from Rs 501 to 10,000.

Bada Sarafa Traders Assocaition will celebrate Ganeshotsava here on Wednesday. An idol will be installed at Jain Handloom, Bada Sarafa at 4 pm. Likewise, festival will be celebrated at Ichhaman Ganesh temple, Indira Nagar here on Wednesday.Sanadhya Brahmin Community will also celebrate the festival at plot 62, Tulsi Nagar.

Eco-friendly Ganesha missing from market
After going through the entire city, eco-friendly Ganesha idols were missing from shops in the market. Despite of directives issued by administration for making eco-friendly Ganesha idols, sculptors did not follow the directives.
Entire idol market is stuffed with idols made of plaster of Paris (PoP). Some sculptors complained that they did not get raw material for making ecofriendly Ganesha idols. Idols made of PoP are harmful for environment.
